What is a percentage?
A percentage represents a proportion out of 100. It is commonly used to compare values, calculate discounts, measure growth or analyze data. For example, 25% means 25 out of 100.
How to calculate a percentage
To calculate a percentage of a value, multiply the value by the percentage and divide by 100.
Example: 20% of 150 = (150 × 20) ÷ 100 = 30
Reverse percentage calculation
Sometimes you know the percentage result but not the original value. In this case, divide the result by the percentage and multiply by 100.
Example: 30 is 20% of what? → (30 × 100) ÷ 20 = 150
