How to calculate tiles needed?
- Waste margin – Allow 10% for straight laying and up to 15-20% for diagonal laying. Large irregular rooms require more margin.
- Laying pattern – Straight laying generates less waste than diagonal or staggered patterns. The tile format relative to the surface also affects cuts.
- Joints – This calculation does not account for grout joint thickness (usually 2 to 5 mm). With wide joints, the number of tiles will be slightly lower.
Practical tips
Always order a few extra tiles from the same batch for possible future repairs (shade variations may occur between batches). For a harmonious result, start laying from the center of the room and finish at the edges where cuts will be less visible.
